Air filters are a HUGE component to your HVAC system and how efficiently it runs. Fo many of us, the air filter is often one of the forgotten household maintenance to-do’s.
What Do Air Filters Do?
To put it simply air filters filter the air that is being pulled into your system. The air filter prevents contaminants from entering the parts of your HVAC system.
What Happens If Air Filters Get Dirty?
The biggest thing that happens is restricted air flow to your system. THIS IS A HUGE KILLER! When air flow is restricted, the system has to work harder, and the system life is less than it would be with clean air filters and full air flow. There are other problems that can arise in your entire HVAC system as well, that can turn into costly repairs. Dust can cause an imbalance in weight to some moving parts, which leads to breakdown. HIGHER ELECTRIC BILLS! YEP, if the system is working harder, that takes more electricity and a high bill to follow.
WHAT TO DO
We recommend changing your air filter at least once a month, as well as after any storm. We also recommend using the less expensive filters because air flows through those type of filters easier than the multi-month filters.
If you are noticing loudness or any issues when you turn on you A/C this year, before calling us or any other HVAC company, try changing out your air filter to see if that does the trick!
