Step 1: Change your filters. This is recommended to be done every 30 days or sooner depending on your environment. No need for fancy and expensive filters, the cheaper ones are just fine! 

Step 2: Maintain clean area around outside unit. Ensure no bushes, trees, debris, and whatever else, isn’t obstructing in or around the A/C unit.  

Step 3: Rinse the outside unit. With a thorough rinse on the unit, you’ll remove dirt that could cause issues.
