What is a ductless mini split system?
Ductless mini split systems are made up of two parts: an outdoor compressor/condenser and an indoor air-handling unit. Units are installed in a “zone” of your home that requires cooling. Each unit is controlled by individual remote controls. Most units are wall-mounted but can also be suspended from the ceiling. When suspended they are connected to the outdoor compressor by a refrigerant line. That’s how the system is ductless — it doesn’t require a duct system to exist or be installed in your home.
What is Central Air Conditioning?
Central air conditioning is the most used type of cooling system and is ideal for cooling large spaces all at once. A central A/C uses a duct system to cool the air, keeping the temperature consistent throughout the home.
Central air is usually controlled by a single thermostat, which acts as the command center for your home’s entire cooling system. If the system senses that room temperature is too high, it sends a signal to the system to begin the cooling process.
