Summer in Arizona is no joke. When your home’s AC is running but the air coming out isn’t cool, panic can set in fast. At Pro Solutions Air, we get calls like this every summer from homeowners across the Valley. The good news? It doesn’t always mean a total system failure.
Here are the most common reasons your AC might be blowing air—but not cool air—and what you can do about it.
1. Your Thermostat Isn’t Set Properly
We know it sounds obvious, but double-check that your thermostat is set to “cool” and the temperature is set lower than your home’s current temp. Sometimes settings get changed without anyone noticing (especially after guests or kids have been playing thermostat DJ).

2. Dirty Air Filter
If your AC filter is clogged, airflow gets restricted. That can cause your system to struggle and even overheat. A dirty filter can also cause your evaporator coils to freeze, making the system blow lukewarm air—or no cool air at all.
Fix it: Swap out the filter. We recommend changing it every month, especially in our dusty Arizona climate.
3. Low Refrigerant Levels
Refrigerant is what actually cools the air. If your system is low, it could be due to a leak. Low refrigerant usually means your system will blow air, but it won’t feel cold.
Fix it: This one needs a pro. If you suspect low refrigerant, call us to inspect and recharge the system (and check for leaks).
4. Dirty or Blocked Condenser Unit
That big metal box outside your home? That’s your condenser. If it’s covered in dirt, leaves, or debris, it can’t effectively release heat from your home, and your system might just push around warm air.
Fix it: Gently rinse the unit with a hose (no high pressure), clear away debris, and give it some breathing room.
5. Frozen Evaporator Coil
If the coil inside your air handler freezes up, airflow gets blocked and warm air might be all you feel. This is often caused by restricted airflow (dirty filter or ductwork) or low refrigerant.
Fix it: Turn off your AC to let it thaw, replace your air filter, and call us to check for deeper issues.
6. Faulty Compressor or Other Major Component
Unfortunately, if your compressor fails—or if there’s an issue with internal components—it may cause your system to blow air without actually cooling it.
Fix it: This one requires professional diagnosis and repair, and in some cases, it may be more cost-effective to consider a new system.
