Smart Home Electrical Upgrades: Modernizing Your Home
Living in the West Valley—whether you’re in Surprise, Glendale, Peoria, or Buckeye—means balancing a love for the desert sun with the reality of high summer electric bills. As we move through 2026, "smart home" technology has shifted from flashy gadgets to essential tools for efficiency, comfort, and safety.
At Pro Solutions Air, we aren’t just HVAC experts; we are your partners in full home modernization. Here are the top electrical upgrades currently transforming homes in our community.
1. Level 2 EV Chargers: Fast Power for Your Drive
With more families in Surprise and Buckeye switching to electric vehicles, the standard wall outlet just doesn't cut it anymore. A Level 2 EV Charger is the gold standard for home charging, providing more miles of range per hour of charging.
- Why it matters for West Valley homes: Many older homes in Glendale or Sun City may need an electrical panel upgrade to support the 40–50 amp draw of a fast charger.
- Pro Tip: Look into smart chargers like the ChargePoint Home Flex or Emporia Pro. They allow you to schedule charging during "off-peak" hours when APS or SRP rates are lowest, saving you money annually.
2. Wi-Fi Enabled Lighting: Security & Savings
Lighting is one of the easiest ways to modernize. Smart switches and Wi-Fi-enabled lighting systems allow you to control your home's ambiance and security from your phone.
- Automation: Set your outdoor lights to turn on at sunset and off at sunrise automatically.
- Energy Efficiency: Forget to turn off the kitchen lights before heading to work or the grocery store? A quick tap on your phone solves it.
- Security: If you’re heading out of town, use "Away Mode" to mimic someone being home, providing peace of mind while you're away from the Valley.
3. Smart Thermostats: Your First Line of Defense
In Arizona, your AC is your most important appliance. A smart thermostat like the Google Nest Learning Thermostat or Ecobee Premium does more than just let you change the temp from the couch.
- Geofencing: Your thermostat can sense when you leave the house and automatically raise the temperature to save energy, then begin cooling things down the moment you head back toward Surprise.
- Humidity Control: Newer models monitor indoor humidity, which is crucial during our late-summer monsoon season to keep your home feeling crisp rather than "sticky."
- Utility Rebates: SRP and APS often offer "Bring Your Own Thermostat" programs that can give you a bill credit (sometimes up to $50–$100) just for enrolling and helping balance the grid during peak heat.
4. Whole-Home Surge Protection
With all these new smart devices, your home’s "brain" is more sensitive than ever. Arizona monsoons bring lightning and power fluctuations that can fry expensive circuit boards in your AC, fridge, and smart hub.
A Whole-Home Surge Protector is installed directly into your electrical panel. It acts as a shield for every outlet in your house, protecting your tech investments from the unpredictable desert weather.
